World favorite DNS/Bind9 system manager is growing up. Now mysqlBind2/iDNS comes with user friendly interfaces as well as the classic tech backend. mysqlBind2/iDNS can manage 1 or 1000's of DNS/Bind servers without a hiccup. Views (split horizons), hidden master, external master, all NS are masters and secondary only zones are all supported. Now with optional built-in rrdtool cluster (all NS data aggregated) and per zone named.stats based DNS query graphs.

Compare our solution with PowerDNS, Mice&Men and Nominum DNS management products. Our feature set is comparable and larger in most cases. Finally our TCO and unixservice.com SLA's are much more competitively priced and we avoid locking you in to our software (at any time you can remove iDNS management and have a nicely configured BIND9 deployment.)

Backend and most interfaces are RESTFUL designed for no nonsense quick operation and work flow.

As an extension to our KISS HA focus, and as with all our other ISP mysqlX2 management modules: Even if the MySQL database is destroyed your DNS services continue to function perfectly.

Feature history

This is just a brief overview of the development history focusing on the most important changes.

Version 2.5 features

  1. New tNSSet system requires complex upgrade (no tools yet available.) Email us for free help migrating from old versions. Or contact unixservice.com for commercial help.
  2. We now recommend using all-masters (all NSs are configured as masters) configuration instead of classic master/slave configuration for split horizons. This is due to the need for additional IPs for BIND view transfers and configuration complexities that become ridiculous with multiple views.

Version 2.4 features

  1. All table management modules updated for the iDNS backend.
  2. New ASP/Company/Contact role model for DNS resources.
  3. Fully automated install and uninstall scripts added. Installation never was so easy.
  4. Bunch of code and template updates to the idnsAdmin and idnsOrg interfaces.
  5. Much faster RRDTool system for usage graphs. See sample below:
  6. Redesigned hit collection system.

Version 2.3 features

  1. New tHitCollector interface for optional rrdtool graphs per zone named.stats. Replaces removed nice looking but sloooow and limited Simile js/ajax.

Version 2.2 features

  1. Improved dashboard graphics using MIT Simile (quickly removed too slow and web 2.0 gimmicky.)
  2. Bunch of bug fixes.
  3. Started adding automated test scripts.

Version 2.1 features

  1. We have added an alpha install script that simplifies a lot the process of installation, making it painless for the user. This install script checks for all the required libraries, tries to guess its location, inform the user as necessary and leaves you with an initial configured NS ready to to run!
  2. Also we have added an install script for each of the user interfaces. Thus we have made the installation faster, simpler and securer.
  3. We have done an intense cleanup of the code removing minor and major install bugs that we found thanks to all the people that downloaded our software and reported the bugs. Thank you people!

Version 2.0 features

  1. Internal/external view support.
  2. New customer/contact/ASP ownership and role model.
  3. Secondary only zones.
  4. Sample interface templates and code.
  5. New much improved import and post import support for BIND created zone file import and zone data comparison for painless migration.
  6. Mass copy and paste operation support. For fast multiple zone and resource record changes.
